People nag on social media for replacing our genuine human relationships, but strangely enough, the more I use it, the more I get to meet beautiful souls all over this world who turn into great friends. Enter Rachel & Josh. Rachel messaged me on Instagram a month and a half ago wondering where in the world I was located, and if there was any way I could do her engagement photos in Maryland. Lucky for her, when photography is concerned, anywhere in the world IS where I'm located, ;) So I booked a plane ticket, an Airbnb, and off I went to Baltimore, Maryland. These two sweet souls drove me to my Airbnb, and we headed off to eat pizza, cause OBVIOUSLY that's the first thing one does when one meets new friends.
Over deep dish pizza I heard these two share their incredible love for each other, how they met 7 years ago at church and were friends for a long time. Then Rachel moved to Florida with her family, and they both realized how much they liked each other. One of those cases of you don't realize what you have until it's gone. ;) So she moved back up to Maryland, and they never looked back. When we were done eating pizza, we headed back to where we parked our car, and to our dismay, after spending 30 minutes searching for it, we realized it had been towed. Now had these two been even an ounce of uptight, this easily could have ruined the photos and the rest of our night. But guys, I can't even begin to tell you how chill and down to earth Josh & Rachel were. Of course, nobody ever wants to have their car towed (it's annoying and expensive), but even in the midst of an ugly situation, these two impressed me so much with their go with the flow attitude. After realizing the impound lot was only a 16 minute walk away, and realizing the sun was going down with every passing minute, I suggested we begin taking photos as we walked. So crazily enough, the first section of this album was taken on our way to the Baltimore impound lot. Maybe it was less than ideal at the time, but what a wonderful story they get to tell for years to come! Once the car was retrieved, we headed down to Fell's Point on the harbor, changed outfits, and made the most out of every ounce of twilight God gave us. I'm so thankful for Josh & Rachel. They took a chance on me, when they easily could have hired a local photographer. I'm so thankful for instagram handles that turn into dream clients and strangers that turn into friends. Baltimore left such a sweet taste in my mouth and it was all because of these two.

OH my lanta you guys. Luke & Caitlin. These two have such fun loving and adventurous souls it was a DREAM to photograph them. They were so down to earth and up for anything which made my photographer heart so happy. Long story short, Caitlin and Luke heard about me through a mutual friend, heard I was going to be in at the Sand Dunes for labor day weekend, and jumped on the chance to do an adventure session with me. I am SO happy they did. Luke works with something smart and technical that I can't even name because it's way above my head (sorry Luke :P), and Caitlin owns her own music therapy practice. They live in Denver with their adorable pup Sophie who makes some cute and hilarious cameos in their session. When we met on Sunday, September 4th, we all instantly connected. We had lunch in Alamosa and realized just how similar we all were. Both Luke & Andrew are tech & engineer minded, while Caitlin and I love the arts. The rest of the afternoon and evening played out like an adventurous double date with a camera. We climbed, talking and stopping occasionally to take photos. It was the stuff of dreams. When we had finished making the dunes our playground, we were having so much fun that nobody wanted the night to end. So we drove back to Alamosa in search of pizza and beer. We couldn't find the beer, but Dominoes provided on the pizza just fine.
I'm SO excited to finally share this adventure session with you all. This is my heart. This is what I love to do. Capturing wild love with real couples in adventurous places. Out of everything in my portfolio so far, I'm most proud of this work. I hope you enjoy looking through these! And if you want to have your own adventure session with me, let me know!! I would love nothing more than to capture your love story on the side of a mountain, on a beautiful beach, or wherever the wind takes us. **View slideshow style by clicking on the first photo & using arrow keys to scroll. I'm so excited to share these two with you all today! With every couple I'm reminded how blessed I am to be able to capture people's love stories, no matter what season of life. God is so so good ya'll! I'm elated to introduce to you guys Will & Jordann. I did a quick mini session with them on the way to Wisconsin for a family reunion a few weeks ago. They were celebrating one year of marriage and wanted to do a quiet, intimate session in their home in Kansas City with their fluffy golden doodle, Kamp. They welcomed Andrew & I into their home with puppy kisses, coffee, and worship music. What more could a girl want!?
Their love for each other spoke volumes as I was able to capture their life raw and authentically. There's something about shooting a couple in their home that is so memorable. I hope Jordann and Will look back on these photos and remember their first year of marriage in their adorable little KC duplex. Happy 1 year you two! Thank you for letting me photograph your story. {Tip: Click on the first picture to view them in slideshow format!} Frolicking in Switzerland with my girl Ruthie.. Ok you caught me. We weren't in Switzerland. We were in Kansas. Hey we can dream though right!? Without trying I think we perfectly captured Beyonce's "Formation" meets "The Sound of Music" because both "I got hot sauce in my bag swag" and "the hills are alive" kept running through my head simultaneously as we shot this.
Ruthie is my favorite model to work with. She's also one of my best friends & ex-roomie so maybe I'm a little biased. ;) She has such a grace and elegance that comes across so well on camera. I took her out to practice shooting with my new film camera using Kodak Ektar 100 film. I'm still waiting to develop the film roll, so until then here's some of the digitals that I'm so excited about! Want to adventure with me? Want me to tell your story? I'm booking portraits, engagements & weddings for 2016 & 2017 right now! Email me at [email protected] & let's make something beautiful together. When Ashley approached me and said she wanted me to do her & Josh's one year anniversary photos I was ecstatic. I think it's funny in this industry we focus all our attention on engagement photos, wedding photos, and then usually stop and think, "Oh well, we can do family photos again in a few years once we have kids." Honestly guys, I think documenting your marriage once a year is such a beautiful way to capture the story of your life; it's probably even more important than engagement photos. Ashley even texted me after I delivered them and said, "I'm really glad we did them. You can tell a difference between our engagement and our one year."
We don't really think about it in the day to day, but this sweet life of ours is short. Too often we get to 60 years old and wish we would have documented the beautiful in between moments of our lives. My advice? Do an anniversary photo shoot every year and pick one pose that you recreate every time. Eventually when there's pets and children and grandchildren added to these photos after the years go by, you're going to be really glad you did it. Trust me. Congratulations to Josh & Ashley on their one year anniversary! Over the years you two have inspired me in the way you do marriage and life, love each other fiercely, and put God first always. I cannot wait to watch your love grow over time. You two are #marriagegoals. ;) She was a theatre major. He was into computer science. He needed an arts credit and decided to try his hand at acting class. Little did he know that enrollment was the best decision he'd ever make because it led him to meet his future wife.
At first they hated each other. She thought he was a typical, cocky college guy. He thought theatre majors were weird, yet he couldn't help thinking she had the most beautiful eyes he'd ever seen. Then the inevitable happened, and they got paired together for a scene. They begrudgingly met after class for rehearsal, but then something unexpected happened. What was meant to be a 30 minute rehearsal turned into 6 hours of talking non stop about everything. They realized they had judged the other much too fast as their conversation ranged from movies to God to food to music. She then knew he was the sweetest boy she'd ever met, and he knew that he'd never met anyone like her in his life. They started dating, and a month later he knew she was the one. The arts collided with science & they never looked back. Shooting these two's engagement photos was so special because I've known Elissa since freshman year when we were in theatre together. I'm so stoked she's found her happily ever after in Jeff. Congratulations you two! <3 Shooting these two's engagement photos was a dream! Kayci was my roommate for 2 years, and dated Samuel for a year of that. Their love for each other and Jesus is so beautiful, & I cannot wait to shoot their wedding this October! For this shoot we woke up at the crack of dawn for a sunrise session, got our shoes super muddy, and got bitten my about a billion mosquitoes. I adore couples who don't mind doing some un-glamorous things for some glamorous shots! My kind of people. Enjoy!
