Do you guys remember the cult classic that is A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff? I probably binged watched that movie so much as a teenager it's not even funny. It's simply a rom-com classic. And today I'm telling you to go rewatch it. Why? Because there's a scene in that movie that I think we all need to pay attention to. Specifically a quote.
"Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game." Now I want you to look at this quote and replace the words "striking out" with "failure." It brings it to a whole other level am I right?! Today as I remember these words, it hit me, something my husband always tells me, but I didn't understand until today. It's ok to fail. And even more than that, it's encouraged. You see, no one ever gets where they want to go perfectly. You are human dear reader. You mess up. You take wrong turns. You fix your mistakes. And it's time you stop chasing perfection and own the fact that you are probably going to fail before you succeed. And that's OK! If we accomplished everything we set out to do perfectly the first time, I don't think it would feel quite as satisfying, do you? There's beauty in the struggle. There's beauty in "I know where I want to be, and I'm trying really hard to get there." Do you think if a baseball player won the World Series without striking out all season it would mean as much? No! Our successful breakthroughs are meaningful because they take so much work to get there. Today I'm writing to encourage you, honestly because I need the same encouragement. Don't live with the fear that you're never going to matter. Don't let that self doubt spiral into your heart and tell you you're not enough. Don't fear of striking out before you even step up to the plate. Now my question for you is what's your game? And I'm guessing it's not baseball. ;) What is that thing you are letting fear stop you from doing? Today I want you to look your fear in the eye and say, "You have no power over me." Then run full force toward your game whatever that may be. And always remember that if you strike out 2 or 3 or 17 times, it's OK because it's growing you and molding you into the person you were meant to be. Best, Lindsey

Frolicking in Switzerland with my girl Ruthie.. Ok you caught me. We weren't in Switzerland. We were in Kansas. Hey we can dream though right!? Without trying I think we perfectly captured Beyonce's "Formation" meets "The Sound of Music" because both "I got hot sauce in my bag swag" and "the hills are alive" kept running through my head simultaneously as we shot this.
Ruthie is my favorite model to work with. She's also one of my best friends & ex-roomie so maybe I'm a little biased. ;) She has such a grace and elegance that comes across so well on camera. I took her out to practice shooting with my new film camera using Kodak Ektar 100 film. I'm still waiting to develop the film roll, so until then here's some of the digitals that I'm so excited about! Want to adventure with me? Want me to tell your story? I'm booking portraits, engagements & weddings for 2016 & 2017 right now! Email me at [email protected] & let's make something beautiful together. I’m not even going to call you by your real name because you don’t deserve that kind of presence in my words. But, I bet you’re expecting a round of applause from me right about now, aren’t you? I bet you’re expecting me to say things like, “Bravo” and “Wow. You’ve really done it. You’ve won.” You think you’ve got our world in a vice grip and you won’t let go. You think you’ve finally conquered over any sense of hope left in the world, completely eradicated any shred of humanity. You’re probably jumping for joy at the disarray and catastrophes you’ve created. And I’ll admit I can understand how you think those things.
To your eyes it’s clear as day: you’re winning. You’re thinking, “I’ve created dissension in them. I’ve built up prejudices and hate so much so they will never be able to love one another again. I’ve caused them to react with violence and murder, and there’s no going back.” But I’m going to let you in on a little secret: you were NEVER winning and you NEVER will. Your end game from the beginning has always been doom. Your end game has always been destruction and death and hell, all the things you try and push onto us. In the end, YOU LOSE. No matter how much darkness you try and push onto us, light always overcomes. ALWAYS. And the more you try and destroy us, the more you draw us closer together. The more hate you spread, the more love we pour out. I’m going to say this and I want you to hear it: YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER US. Let me repeat so you fully understand: YOU. HAVE. NO. POWER. OVER. US. You see, you’re sly and cunning and manipulative. You spread fear and hate and you live off of death. You revel in it. But you are WORTHLESS. You are DISGUSTING. And you ultimately are powerless because there is someone that you hate even more than you hate us. Someone who has the power to destroy you with a blink of an eye. Someone who WILL win in the end. His name is JESUS CHRIST. And He is the complete opposite of you. He is LOVE. He is HOPE. He is JUSTICE. All of the things you despise, He is. You see, the world was never created for your kind of lifestyle. Your treachery, your murder, your diseases, and your heartbreak. It was created for YOUR DEMISE. It was created for joy and peace and community and hope and LOVE. Those are the things we were made for and nothing you can do can stop those things from leaving us. Oh yes, you can definitely scare us, but you cannot take away our JOY or our LOVE or our HOPE that there is more good in this world than evil. Goodness and love and mercy and grace will always outshine hate and sin and destruction. You can’t touch those things because Jesus is the one who holds them in His hands, and because of this YOU CANNOT TOUCH US. You will NEVER overcome us because we have a power and a source of light that you cannot even fathom. You cannot even look at Jesus Christ because if you did you would run for the hills like the coward you are. You are scum. You are despicable. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE POWER OVER US. Because we are the children of the ONE TRUE GOD. Enjoy what you think is a rush of victory, because in the end, YOU LOSE, and God’s Kingdom will reign forever. Love, A Daughter of the Most High King "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." ~ Romans 8:18 |
